New Year’s Resolution in November?

Here we are, at the apex of the year. We are now rushing around to ready ourselves for the coming holidays. Who has time to think about New Year’s RESOLUTIONS? But any serious resolutions should be thought out and prepared for way in advance. This gives the best shot at succeeding, especially in business.

I have compiled a list of 10 resolutions that any business owner can benefit from. Choose the ones that make the most (realistic) sense and make a plan of action this month before all the craziness happens. When the ball drops on January 1, your preparations will pay off.

10 Resolution Ideas

  1. Find a new networking group that will expand your referral system.
  2. Answer all employee/customer emails within one day. Your customers can never be too happy. While you are at it, ask for customer reviews.
  3. Take communication to the next level. Let your employees know what you expect before they do it their own way. Set up a system, create instructions, and have all employees learn it before doing. This goes for many aspects of production, HR, and office protocol. Be proactive.
  4. Create at least one Blog a week. This is the best way to get Google to move your business up in the rankings. It is like moving your business closer to the best real estate in town, where customers can easily find you.
  5. Delegate to the team, and expand your position to include new tasks that only you can do.
  6. Get digital. Check and update your online presence. Yelp, Google, LinkedIn, Facebook…Your brand extends out over all of the social media that your name shows up on. Make sure it gives the whole story, and carries the face of your business the way you want it to.
  7. Update your payment options. Are you giving young customers the options to make purchases easy for them? The inclusion of new technologies like mobile payments will increase sales.
  8. Make sure your SEO is working for you. Work with your web developer to complete key words and descriptions for not only your web pages, but all of your images as well.
  9. Update your website. Is your website looking fresh? Potential customers may pass you by if it is dated, has broken links, old images, sad logos, and a blog that has not been kept up. Viewers are savvy and expect a professional look. If you want to have this done by January, ask your designer if it can be done. If not, then at least you have a head start.
  10. Take care of your company culture. Fostering positive behaviors at work can pay off. Communicate your appreciation of jobs well done, and give employees power to participate in the healthy atmosphere.

Conclusion

Finally, don’t forget to revisit and revise resolutions every few months, so that you succeed. Keeping resolutions makes it more than a resolution. It moves old habits to new and better habits. It strengthens the company and builds confidence. It can bring new and better contracts. The sense of accomplishment is hard to beat.
