How to Create a YouTube Channel For Your Small Business

Why Should I Create a YouTube Channel?

You might be asking yourself why you should create a YouTube channel for your business. You also might be asking about the costs of making a video and whether it’s practical or not. But the reality is that you should make a YouTube channel. It’s easier and cheaper than ever to produce video content. Because nearly everyone uses YouTube for all sorts of reasons (such as tutorials or cat videos), it’s a great place to advertise your business and let people know what you are all about. Also, most young people are turning away from televisions and focusing more on the internet for content. It’s basically a no-brainer to create more content on the web, and best of all, it’s free. This levels the playing field between your small business and big business. Take the opportunity!

Getting Started

All you need to create a YouTube channel is a Google account. You probably already have one that you use for email or for Google+. If you don’t, it’s simple. You can go to YouTube and on the right corner click the SIGN IN button and at the bottom, you will have the option to create an account.

Click the SIGN IN button at the corner of the screen.

Next, Select Create Account on the bottom of the page.

  • From here, you can create your account by entering your name, email, and password. If you don’t have an email set up, you can also set up a Gmail account in the same way.  It even has a button to create a Gmail account if you need one. The rest is fairly self-explanatory. Make sure to use an email that you use, so that they can send a verification number to you. You will need to type it in to continue your account creation.
  • So now, you probably have your account set up. Now you can create a Youtube Channel for your business. On the right side of the screen, you will be signed in on the right.
  • Let’s create a channel. You’re going to want to click on the cog wheel that is your settings button. It looks like this:

  • Once you clicked on that, you will head over to your account settings page. Under where your account is, you can create a new channel.

  • Now all you need is the name of your brand or business. Now, you have a YouTube channel associated with your Google account! You can have more than just one brand account if you have multiple businesses (or possibly multiple personas).
  • Here you can select your main photo, as well as a background photo for your business account. This will be different from your account that you used to sign in.
  • Make sure that when you are uploading video or commenting on or liking a video, that you are signed in to the correct account!
