I am not an SLP, I'm a concerned parent, and this book is incredibly helpful. I actually can't put it down. I purchased the book primarily to learn activities I can do with my son to support him at home and there are plenty of those but I was pleasantly surprised to learn so much about childhood apraxia as well. I occasionally had to Google a term but the content is clear and accessible. I'm sure it's incredibly helpful to SLPs but it's also very useful for parents of children with suspected or diagnosed childhood apraxia. The authors' expertise is abundantly clear and I am learning so much it's hard to put the book down. Highly recommend!

This is not only a Guide for SLP's but a great educational and practical resource for parents filled with strategies, ideas and tips for carry-over practice for home. it is not dense with technical terms so it makes it easy to understand. Each chapter covers an important topic in different stages of your journey, so I keep finding myself going back to it time and time again. It helped me support my minimally verbal child with moderate/severe CAS to become a communication risk taker, which was the first step for her to start finding her voice! Every parent, caregiver and SLP supporting a child with CAS should have a copy!

Hi! I think the book I purchased is absolutely amazing. It’s not only filled with facts supported by research, but there are also REAL hands-on activities to go with each age group. It’s a wonderful resource that I think applies to even non-verbal kids outside of the sCAS.
Thank you!

I am a former teacher turned stay at home mom of 3 and my youngest (who is 3) was different—he was difficult to nurse, an extremely picky eater (used a bottle until 18 months)—so we started early intervention in MO and while the SLP, OT, and DIETITIAN were helpful, I felt defeated and sad that my 3 year old (then 1.5 Year old) wasn’t talking, wasn’t eating—I was an early childhood teacher, I helped write IEPs and IFSPs for children!! but not MY child-I just wanted answers—my parents were asking me “what’s wrong with L, what does he have...”. My parents wanted a diagnosis and I just wanted information!! Carie’s book does just that-it gives lots of information, it gives specific examples of how to PLAY while still sliding in speech targets—carie is inspiring, she’s a mom, she gets it!!!! Thank you! L continues to make progress everyday—-it’s a slow process—we are currently in SPEECH, FEEDING, and OT Therspy and we are waiting (1year wait) to see a developmental pediatrician—as a parent trust your gut and seek out experts and read what they write!!
