Discreet, elegant, deadly; the Valkyrie is a knife designed upon a vision. One particular night out at a black-tie event, I observed a woman with a unique character. Vigilant, fully in control and aware of her surroundings, almost tactically aware. Her movements confident, her gaze piercing, her attire stunning. I have since reflected upon her and the possibility of her employment – was she an operator or simply a well-trained civilian? What was her purpose there?
I have since fantasized about what the type of knife she may use. A knife that may embody her character. She struck me as practical, elegant, but also deadly – and so the concept of the Valkyrie was born.
As I began designing the Valkyrie, each aspect of the knife was intentionally considered. The unique blade shape features a prominent belly, inspired by skinners, making this discreet knife a killer slicer allowing it to slice far more than its’ blade length would suggest. A prominent thumb ramp on the blade locks in your grip while the elegant top swedge narrows the blade to a fine drop point tip, perfect for piercing. The hollow ground blade is perfection; the edge, beveled at 17° and ground to 15/1000ths-in behind the edge allows it to whittle hairs.
The blade sits between the handle scales with only a 0.3in gap, the tightest tolerance I have ever spec’d. And finally, deployment of this distinctive blade is achieved through thumb-studs. Trustworthy, thumb-studs allow the knife to be deployed blind, in an intense moment, reliably, even when your fine motor skills are failing you. Reliable in heat of the moment.
The handle is pure ergonomics and fits perfectly in nearly any hand. Slim, comfortable, and intelligently placed jimping; the handle is all about the details. The lines flow from the blade through the handles, beautifully sculpting the raw 6AL4V titanium from solid block to graceful object. The fine, grippy, jimping from the blade is echoed in the full-length backspacer, wrapping around it to provide a firm grip in any hand position. Hammer, saber or reverse grips will all feel incredibly natural and easy, while the slim CNC machined pocket clip tucks away in the hand.
The Valkyrie represents one of my finest concepts, designed to the tightest tolerances I can imagine and exuding style, performance, and purpose, truly capturing the qualities of the woman who inspired it. Practical, elegant, deadly; Valkyrie.
