The first step in any solar system project is to sit down for a free energy consultation and solar analysis. We take a look at your energy usage over the past 12 months to find out how many kilowatt hours (kWh) you use to get a usage baseline on your energy needs. Then, we determine if you have any changes coming up in the next 12 months. This would include things like adding a spa or electric vehicle, changing major appliances from gas to electric, or a change in your lifestyle.
Once we determine the size and scope of the proposed solar system, a technician will visit your home to confirm all of the details of the project before beginning the engineering process. We take into consideration the angle of your roof planes, any shading, the age and size of the main electric service, and the condition of your roof. We look at how much sun hits your roof and which areas of the roof will produce the maximum solar energy production and your aesthetic preferences are also taken into consideration.
After all issues are analyzed, the design team creates a custom model showing the size and placement of the solar panels and how we intend to maximize the effect of the new solar system for your home. At this point, we also include any additional work that may need to be done before the solar panels can be installed. Things like a roof replacement, or a main electrical panel upgrade. These things can be included in the overall cost projections for your review and consideration. Usually, the new monthly cost is still lower than the ever-increasing cost from your energy provider.
The final steps include submitting the paperwork for the permit with both the local city or county, and PG&E, scheduling the installation with the client, finalizing the project, final inspection, and commissioning of the system.
